Biography
Jacques Cousteau was a French naval officer, oceanographer, inventor and filmmaker. He co-developed the Aqua-Lung and produced a series of underwater documentaries that brought marine exploration to wide audiences.
His best-known film, The Silent World (1956), which he co-directed with Louis Malle, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best Documentary. From 1966 to 1976 he hosted the television series The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau.
