Biography
James Bernard was a British film composer best known for his scores for Hammer Film Productions. He composed the music for The Quatermass Xperiment (1955), The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1958) and many subsequent Hammer horror and adventure films, including The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), The Gorgon (1964), Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), The Devil Rides Out (1968), Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968), Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) and Scars of Dracula (1970).
Educated at Wellington College and the Royal College of Music, Bernard began his film career after collaborating with Paul Dehn on the screenplay for Seven Days to Noon (1950), for which they shared an Academy Award for Best Story. He worked extensively with Hammer from the mid-1950s until the 1970s and later composed scores for silent film restorations, including Nosferatu (1997).
