Biography
Jan Garbarek is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist and composer. Born on 4 March 1947 in Mysen, he began playing the saxophone after hearing John Coltrane and released his first album under his own name in 1967. He has been closely associated with ECM Records since 1970.
Garbarek has collaborated with musicians including Keith Jarrett and the Hilliard Ensemble, notably on the album Officium (1994). As a composer for film, he wrote the original music for Kippur (2000), directed by Amos Gitai, as well as other works including Vesna Goes Fast (1996).
