Biography
Janet Bartley was a Jamaican actress. She played Elsa, the love interest of the protagonist, in Perry Henzell’s film The Harder They Come (1972).
Born in Trelawny, she began acting in Jamaican Festival competitions in the late 1960s and appeared in the 1970 pantomime Music Boy. She married cameraman David MacDonald, who worked on the film, and moved to England in the mid-1970s. There she appeared in the play For Yesterday and on ITV in The Road Runner and No, Mama, No.
Bartley’s other screen credits include Bisi, Daughter of the River (1977), Empire Road (1978–79) and ITV Playhouse (1977–79). She died in London in the 1980s.
