Biography
Janice Okoh is a British playwright and screenwriter. She is from Lewisham in south-east London and the daughter of Nigerian parents. She studied law at Keele University and completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. Before writing full time she worked as a paralegal in the City and as a teacher.
In 2011 she won the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting for Three Birds, which was produced in 2013 at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, and later transferred to the Bush Theatre. She adapted the play for the six-part BBC Three comedy-drama series Just Act Normal, broadcast from April 2025. Her other stage plays include Egusi Soup (2012) and The Gift (2020). On television she has written episodes of Doctors, Hetty Feather, Sanditon and On the Edge.
