Biography
Jean Aurenche was a French screenwriter. He began working in advertising in the 1930s before turning to screenwriting, with early credits including Hôtel du Nord (1938).
From 1943 he formed a long partnership with Pierre Bost, writing or co-writing dozens of films, often for Claude Autant-Lara. Their collaborations include Forbidden Games (1952), La Traversée de Paris (1956) and The Red Inn (1951).
After Bost's death in 1975, Aurenche continued to work with Bertrand Tavernier on films such as The Judge and the Assassin (1976) and Coup de Torchon (1981). He also appeared uncredited as a bandit in Luis Buñuel's L'Âge d'or (1930).
