Biography
Jean Castanier, also known as Joan Castanyer, was a Catalan painter, set designer, writer, actor and filmmaker. Born in Blanes, Girona, in 1903, he moved to Paris in 1925 and worked with Jean Renoir on several films of the 1930s.
He contributed to the production design of Boudu Saved from Drowning (1932) and other Renoir titles including La Nuit du carrefour (1933). He wrote the story for The Crime of Monsieur Lange (1936) and appeared as an actor in L'Âge d'or (1930) and Elena and Her Men (1956). Castanier also directed shorts and the feature L'Homme qui revient de loin (1950). He died in Antibes in 1972.
