Biography
Jean Cocteau was a French director and writer. He directed and wrote Orpheus (1950), and also directed Beauty and the Beast (1946), The Blood of a Poet (1932) and Testament of Orpheus (1960). He was born Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau on 5 July 1889 in Maisons-Laffitte, Yvelines, France.
Cocteau worked across poetry, theatre and film. His other film credits include writing the dialogue for Les Dames du bois de Boulogne (1945) and providing the source material for The Strange Ones (1950). He died on 11 October 1963.
