Biography
Jean Lanier (also credited as J. Lanier, Jean Lannier or Jean Le Boulaire) was a French actor born on 2 August 1913 in Saint-Ouen, Seine-Saint-Denis. He appeared in supporting roles in French cinema and television from the 1940s to the 1980s.
His credits include Children of Paradise (1945), The Lovers of Montparnasse (1958), Last Year at Marienbad (1961) as a hotel guest, The Soft Skin (1964), The Toy (1976), Pardon Mon Affaire (1976), My New Partner (1984) and The Vengeance of the Winged Serpent (1984). He also had television roles, notably recurring appearances in Les enquêtes du commissaire Maigret.
Lanier trained as a violinist. Under his birth name Eugène Le Boulaire he performed in the premiere of Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time in a German prisoner-of-war camp in 1941. He died on 9 April 1999 in Paris.
