Biography
Jean Rochefort was a French actor. Born in Paris on 29 April 1930, he trained at the Centre d'Art Dramatique de la rue Blanche and the Conservatoire National. After national service he worked for seven years as a theatre actor with the Compagnie Grenier Hussenot.
He made his film debut in the mid-1950s and went on to appear in more than one hundred films and thirty-seven television productions. Notable roles include Colonel Louis Toulouse in The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (1972), the lead in Pardon Mon Affaire (1976) and Le Crabe-Tambour (1977), and Gilbert Neuville in Tell No One (2006). He voiced Pépé in the animated feature Titeuf (2011). Rochefort received the César for best supporting actor in 1976, best actor in 1978 and an honorary César in 1999. He died in Paris on 9 October 2017.
