Biography
Jean Yanne, also credited as Jean Roger Gouyé, was a French actor. He appeared as Roland Durand in Jean-Luc Godard's Weekend (1967) and as Paul Thomas, known as 'Popaul', in Claude Chabrol's The Butcher (1970).
Born in Les Lilas, Seine, France, Yanne began in cabaret and radio before entering film in the mid-1960s. He also worked as a screenwriter, director, producer and composer. In 1972 he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor for his performance in Maurice Pialat's We Won't Grow Old Together.
