Biography
Jim Davis (born Marlin Davis, also credited as James Davis or Marlin Davis) was an American actor. Born on 26 August 1909 in Edgerton, Missouri, he died on 26 April 1981 in Northridge, California. He trained at William Jewell College and served in the United States Coast Guard during the Second World War. His first major screen role came in the 1948 film Winter Meeting.
Davis appeared in numerous westerns and other films, including The Big Sky (1952) as Streak, The Magnificent Seven (1960), El Dorado (1966), Rio Lobo (1970), Big Jake (1971) and The Parallax View (1974). On television he had roles in series such as Bonanza, Kung Fu, The Time Tunnel and Perry Mason. He is best known for portraying Jock Ewing in the CBS series Dallas from 1978 until shortly before his death.
