Biography
Jiřina Lukešová was a Czech film editor. She began her career in 1941 as an assistant to editor Anna Vlasová and worked independently from 1944, initially on short documentaries. From the early 1950s she edited feature films, collaborating with directors including Alfréd Radok, Evald Schorm and Jiří Menzel.
Lukešová edited Closely Watched Trains (1966), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Her other credits include Intimate Lighting (1965), Capricious Summer (1968), Larks on a String (1969) and Secluded, Near Woods (1976), as well as television productions such as the children's series Krkonošské pohádky. Before retiring she recommended Jiří Brožek as her successor to Menzel. She died in Prague in 2010.
