Biography
Joe Downing (also credited as Joseph Downing) was an American actor who appeared in more than 70 stage, film and television roles, often as gangsters in B-movies.
He began his career on Broadway in the early 1930s, with credits including A Farewell to Arms (1930), Dead End (1935) and Ramshackle Inn (1944), after earlier work with the Theatre Guild. His film debut was in Dr. Socrates (1935).
Downing's film roles include A Slight Case of Murder (1938), Each Dawn I Die (1939), Johnny Eager (1941) and The Big Shot (1942). He appeared three times on Alfred Hitchcock Presents between 1956 and 1958.
