Biography
John Carrafa is an American choreographer and director whose work spans Broadway, film and television.
He began as a dancer and assistant to Twyla Tharp before moving into choreography and direction. On Broadway he received two Tony Award nominations for choreography, for the 2002 productions of Into the Woods and Urinetown, and won an Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award and other theatre honours.
In film he has choreographed more than 25 features, including The Polar Express (2004), for which he received a Media Choreography Award, The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) and Let's Be Cops (2014). On television he served as series choreographer for six seasons of Nashville (2012–2018), which he also directed episodes of, and for Empire (2015); other credits include The Gilded Age, Only Murders in the Building and Westworld.
