Biography
John Dall (born John Dall Thompson) was an American actor. Born in New York City on 26 May 1920, he began his career on the stage and made his Broadway debut in 1944. He first came to prominence with his screen debut in The Corn Is Green (1945), playing a young Welsh mining student opposite Bette Davis, a role that earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Dall is best remembered for his film roles as Brandon Shaw in Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (1948) and as Bart Tare in the film noir Gun Crazy (1950). He also appeared in The Man Who Cheated Himself (1950), Spartacus (1960) as Marcus Publius Glabrus, and Atlantis: The Lost Continent (1961). Primarily a stage and television actor, he worked in both mediums through the 1950s and into the mid-1960s. He died in Beverly Hills, California, on 15 January 1971.
