Biography
John Fraser (1931–2020) was a Scottish actor and author. Born John Alexander Fraser in Glasgow, he appeared in numerous British and international films from the 1950s onwards.
His film roles include Flight Lieutenant J. V. Hopgood in The Dam Busters (1955), Corporal Piper Ian Fraser in Tunes of Glory (1960), Lord Alfred Douglas in The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960), Prince Alfonso in El Cid (1961), Colin in Repulsion (1965) and a role in Isadora (1968). He received a BAFTA nomination for The Trials of Oscar Wilde. On television he appeared in episodes of Columbo (1972), Doctor Who (1981) and The Bill (1995).
In 2004 Fraser published his autobiography Close Up, in which he wrote about his gay life and friendships in the film industry.
