Biography
John Grisham is an American novelist, lawyer and former politician, best known for his legal thrillers. Born on 8 February 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, he grew up in Mississippi, graduated from Mississippi State University and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1981. He practised criminal law for about a decade and served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1983 to 1990.
Grisham's debut novel A Time to Kill was published in 1989 and adapted into a 1996 film, on which he is also credited as producer. His second novel The Firm (1991) became a bestseller and was adapted into a 1993 film; The Pelican Brief (1992) followed with a 1993 film adaptation. Several other novels, including The Client (1993), The Chamber (1994), The Rainmaker (1995) and The Runaway Jury (1996), have also been adapted for the screen.
