Biography
John Hargreaves was an Australian actor. Born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, he graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 1970 after earlier working as a teacher.
He appeared in a range of Australian films and television productions. His credits include Mad Dog Morgan (1976), Don's Party (1976), Long Weekend (1978), The Odd Angry Shot (1979), Malcolm (1986) as Frank Baker, and Cry Freedom (1987) as Bruce. He played the title role in the 1970s television drama series Young Ramsay and had numerous stage roles.
Hargreaves won three Australian Film Institute Awards and was nominated six times. In 1994 he became the first actor to receive the Byron Kennedy Award. He died in Sydney in 1996.
