Biography
John Maloof is an American filmmaker, photographer and author. In 2007, while researching a book on Chicago's Portage Park neighbourhood, he purchased a box of negatives at a storage auction and discovered the work of street photographer Vivian Maier. He has since become the primary curator of her archive, publishing several books on her photography.
Maloof co-directed, co-wrote and co-produced the 2014 documentary Finding Vivian Maier with Charlie Siskel. The film, which he also shot and narrated, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Prior to his work with Maier's collection, Maloof worked as a real estate agent in Chicago and served as president of a local historical society.
