Biography
John Matuszak was an American actor and former professional American football defensive end. Nicknamed "Tooz", he was selected first overall in the 1973 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers and played most of his career with the Oakland Raiders, winning two Super Bowls.
He began acting in the late 1970s. His first major film role was as a football player in North Dallas Forty (1979). Matuszak is best known for portraying Sloth in The Goonies (1985). Other film credits include Caveman (1981), The Ice Pirates (1984) and One Crazy Summer (1986). He also made guest appearances in television series including MASH, The A-Team, Miami Vice and Hunter*.
Matuszak died on 17 June 1989, aged 38.
