Biography

John Soh (1929–2025) was an American film and television editor and producer. Born in Seoul, South Korea, he served as a translator with the US Marines during the Korean War before moving to the United States. He studied at Chapman College and UCLA Film School, later working with producer David Wolper on documentaries.

Soh’s longest collaboration was with Jacques Cousteau, for whom he edited twenty-three episodes of the series The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau (1968–1982) and produced the documentary Jacques Cousteau: The First 75 Years (1985). He also edited the Oscar-winning documentary The Hellstrom Chronicle (1971) and the miniseries Hiroshima (1995). He received three Primetime Emmy nominations and the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 2007. He appears in archive sound in the 2021 documentary Becoming Cousteau.
