Biography
John Wexley was an American playwright, screenwriter and author. Born in New York City in 1907, he first gained prominence with his prison drama The Last Mile, a Broadway hit in 1930 that was later filmed twice.
He moved into screenwriting in Hollywood, contributing to films including The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse (1938), Angels with Dirty Faces (1938), Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939), Hangmen Also Die! (1943), Cornered (1945) and The Long Night (1947). His career ended after he was blacklisted following testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee. In later years he wrote the book The Judgment of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (1955).
