Biography
Jorge Arriagada (20 August 1943 – 8 October 2024) was a French-Chilean composer of film music. He studied composition and orchestral conducting at the National Conservatory of Music in Santiago and later in Paris, where he received a French government scholarship. In 1972 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to study electronic music at Stanford University.
From 1977 he composed scores for more than 160 films. He is best known for his long collaboration with director Raúl Ruiz, for whom he wrote music for 46 or 47 films beginning with the short Colloque de chiens (1977). His other credits include It's All True (1993), Time Regained (1999), Our Lady of the Assassins (2000), Klimt (2006), The Women on the 6th Floor (2011) and Lines of Wellington (2012). He also worked with directors including Patricio Guzmán, Barbet Schroeder and Olivier Assayas. In 2020 he received the Grand Prix Sacem for Music for Image.
