Biography
José Baviera (born José Luis Baviera Navarro) was a Spanish actor who appeared in more than 190 films and television productions, primarily in Mexico. He was born on 17 August 1906 in Valencia, Spain, and emigrated to Mexico in 1940 after the Spanish Civil War.
He is known for roles including Leandro Gómez in Luis Buñuel’s The Exterminating Angel (1962), Pimentó in La barraca (1945) and Licenciado de la Fuente in The Other (1946). Baviera also directed several films, including Cinco vidas y un destino (1957). In 1946 he received an Ariel Award for best supporting actor for La barraca.
Baviera died on 13 August 1981 in Mexico City.
