Biography
Josep Llorens Artigas was a Spanish ceramic artist, art critic and occasional actor. Born in Barcelona in 1892, he studied at the Escola de la Llotja and worked as an art critic for the newspaper La Veu before moving to Paris, where he associated with avant-garde figures including Luis Buñuel.
He appeared as the Governor in Buñuel's 1930 surrealist film L'Âge d'or. He is also credited in the 1937 film The Virgin Bride.
Artigas returned to Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War and later taught ceramics at the Escuela Massana. He collaborated extensively with Joan Miró on ceramic works and died in Barcelona in 1980.
