Biography
Joseph C. Wright (1892–1985) was an American art director and production designer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he worked on more than 80 films from 1923 to 1969, with a long association with 20th Century Fox where he contributed to many of the studio’s colour musicals and prestige productions.
He won two Academy Awards for Best Art Direction, for This Above All (1942) and My Gal Sal (1942), and received ten further nominations. His credits include production design on The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) and art direction on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), Guys and Dolls (1955), Oklahoma! (1955), Days of Wine and Roses (1962) and Walk Don’t Run (1966).
