Biography
Joseph Anthony Campanella was an American character actor. Born on 21 November 1924 in Manhattan, New York City, he died on 16 May 2018 in Sherman Oaks, California. He attended Manhattan College, where he earned a BA in English literature, and studied speech and drama at Columbia University. He served in the US Navy during the Second World War.
Campanella appeared in more than 200 television and film roles from the early 1950s to 2009. His credits include Joe Turino on the soap opera Guiding Light, Lew Wickersham on Mannix, Brian Darrell on The Bold Ones: The Lawyers, and Harper Deveraux on Days of Our Lives. He voiced Neal, the Berkshire Captain, in the 1972 film Silent Running, and provided voices for animated series including Spider-Man (as Dr Curt Connors/The Lizard) and Batman: The Animated Series. He also narrated National Geographic specials and received Emmy and Tony Award nominations.
He was the brother of actor Frank Campanella.
