Biography
Jules Berry (born Marie Louis Jules Paufichet) was a French actor. He was born on 9 February 1883 in Poitiers, Vienne, and died on 23 April 1951 in Paris.
Berry began his stage career in the early 1900s after studies at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand and the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He performed in Paris theatres and spent over a decade at the Théâtre royal des Galeries Saint-Hubert in Brussels before returning to prominent roles in Parisian boulevard theatre. His film work began with the silent Oliver Cromwell (1911) and continued in the sound era from Mon coeur et ses millions (1931).
He appeared in around 90 films, with notable roles including Batala in The Crime of Monsieur Lange (1936), M. Valentin in Daybreak (1939) and the Devil in The Devil's Envoys (1942).
