Biography
Julius Falkenstein (25 February 1879 – 9 December 1933) was a German stage and film actor. He began his career in theatre around 1904 in Berlin and appeared regularly on Berlin stages, with occasional engagements elsewhere, including Düsseldorf, Vienna and guest tours. He was noted for his comedic roles and distinctive appearance featuring a bald head and monocle.
Falkenstein entered film in 1914 and appeared in more than 180 productions up to 1933. Among his credits are The Oyster Princess (1919), The Haunted Castle (1921), Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922) as Karsten, and Spies (1928). He was Jewish and obtained a special permit to continue working after the Nazi rise to power in 1933, though he completed only one further film before his death from meningitis in Berlin.
