Biography
Jurema Penna was a Brazilian actress and playwright. Born on 8 December 1926 in Alcobaça, Bahia, she graduated in law and trained at the School of Theatre of the Federal University of Bahia under Martim Gonçalves. She began her career on stage in 1949 and later appeared in films including Mandacaru Vermelho (1961) and The Given Word (1962).
Penna moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1966 and made her television debut in 1969. She became known for roles in telenovelas such as Irmãos Coragem (1970–1971) and Selva de Pedra (1972). She returned to Bahia in 1973, where she continued working in theatre as an actress, writer and director until her death on 20 September 2001 in Salvador.
