Biography
Kara Lee Corthron is a playwright, novelist and television writer. A Juilliard alumna, she began her screenwriting career on the NBC series Kings (2009) and has since written episodes of You (Netflix), Servant (Apple TV+) and The Flight Attendant (HBO Max), also serving as executive story editor and co-executive producer on several of these shows.
She is the author of the young-adult novels The Truth of Right Now (2017) and Daughters of Jubilation (2020). Her plays include Welcome to Fear City, AliceGraceAnon, Holly Down in Heaven, Listen for the Light and Etched in Skin on a Sunlit Night.
Corthron has received awards including the Princess Grace Award, the Helen Merrill Award, the Vineyard Theatre’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and multiple MacDowell fellowships. She is a member of New Dramatists and has taught playwriting at institutions including Primary Stages’ Einhorn School of Performing Arts and Ohio University.
