Biography
King Hu (also credited as Hu Jinquan, Chuan King and Hu Chin-chuan) was a Chinese film director, screenwriter and editor. Born in Beijing, he moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and entered the film industry there, later working at the Shaw Brothers studio before relocating to Taiwan.
He is known for directing wuxia films including Come Drink with Me (1966), on which he also wrote the screenplay, Dragon Inn (1967) and A Touch of Zen (1970–1971), on which he served as director, editor and screenwriter. A Touch of Zen received the Technical Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975.
Hu directed further films such as Raining in the Mountain (1979), Legend of the Mountain (1979) and Swordsman (1990). He died in Taipei in 1997.
