Biography
Koichi Sugiyama was a Japanese composer, conductor and orchestrator. He was born in Tokyo on 11 April 1931 and died there on 30 September 2021. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he worked in television before becoming a freelance composer in 1968.
Sugiyama composed the score for the film Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989). He is best known for his music for the Dragon Quest video game series, beginning with the first game in 1986, as well as for other video games, anime, television shows and pop songs. He was among the first video game composers to record with a live orchestra.
