Biography
Krzysztof Komeda, born Krzysztof Trzciński, was a Polish film composer and jazz pianist. He was born on 27 April 1931 in Poznań and died on 23 April 1969 in Warsaw. Trained as a doctor, he practised as a laryngologist while pursuing music under the pseudonym Komeda from the mid-1950s. He performed in Polish jazz ensembles and began composing for film in 1958.
Komeda is known for his scores for Roman Polanski’s films, including Two Men and a Wardrobe (1958), Knife in the Water (1962), Cul-de-sac (1966), The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) and Rosemary’s Baby (1968). He also composed for other directors such as Jerzy Skolimowski and Andrzej Wajda. His 1965 album Astigmatic is noted in jazz circles.
