Biography
L. Subramaniam, also credited as Lakshminarayana Subramaniam or Dr. L. Subramaniam, is an Indian violinist, composer and conductor. Born on 23 July 1947 in Madras (now Chennai), he trained in Carnatic music from childhood and later studied Western classical music. He holds a medical degree from Madras Medical College and has composed and performed across classical, jazz fusion and world music genres.
His film work includes the scores for Salaam Bombay! (1988), Mississippi Masala (1991) and Baraka (1992). He has collaborated with orchestras and musicians including Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grappelli, and has written orchestral works performed by ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic.
