Biography
Lady Rowlands (born Mary Allen Neal) was an American actress. She appeared in several films directed by John Cassavetes, who was married to her daughter, the actress Gena Rowlands.
Her screen roles included Georgia Moore in Minnie and Moskowitz (1971), Martha Mortensen in A Woman Under the Influence (1974), Melva Drake in Opening Night (1977) and Mrs Sullivan in the television film Dr. Strange (1978). She also worked as a set decorator on Faces (1968). In two of Cassavetes’s films she played the mother of characters portrayed by her real-life daughter.
Rowlands was born on 12 April 1904 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and died on 28 May 1999 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California.
