Biography

Laïla Marrakchi is a Franco-Moroccan film director and screenwriter. She was born on 10 December 1975 in Casablanca, Morocco, and studied at the French lycée Lyautey there before earning a master's degree in film and audiovisual studies from Paris III University.

Her first feature film, Marock (2005), screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Her second feature, Rock the Casbah (2013), premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She has directed episodes of the television series The Bureau (2015–2018), Marseille (2018) and The Eddy (2020), as well as the documentary Zwaj El Waqt (2017). She is married to filmmaker Alexandre Aja.
