Biography
Landers Stevens (1877–1940) was an American stage and film actor. Born John Landers Stevens in San Francisco, he began his career in theatre before moving into motion pictures around 1920. He appeared in prominent roles early on and later took smaller supporting parts, frequently as authority figures.
Stevens is credited in numerous films, including uncredited appearances as a doctor in The Public Enemy (1931), 'Doc' in The Most Dangerous Game (1932), and a committeeman in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). His final screen role was as a Senate investigator in Citizen Kane (1941). He appeared as Judge Watson (uncredited) in Swing Time (1936), directed by his son George Stevens. He was also the father of cameraman Jack Stevens and brother of drama critic Ashton Stevens.
