Biography
Le Vicomte de Noailles, also known as Charles de Noailles, was a French nobleman and film producer. Born on 26 September 1891 in Paris, he died on 26 April 1981.
With his wife Marie-Laure de Noailles, he financed and produced several avant-garde films from the late 1920s onwards, often commissioning one each year as a birthday gift. His credits include L'Âge d'or (1930), directed by Luis Buñuel, and The Blood of a Poet (1932), directed by Jean Cocteau. He also produced Man Ray's The Mysteries of the Chateau de De (1929).
The couple's support for surrealist and experimental cinema ended after the public scandal surrounding L'Âge d'or, after which they withdrew the film from circulation for decades.
