Biography
Leah Purcell is an Australian actress, playwright, film director and novelist. Born on 14 August 1970 in Murgon, Queensland, she made her film debut in 1999 and appeared as Claudia Wiss in Lantana (2001).
Her other film roles include Diane in Somersault (2004), Queenie in The Proposition (2005) and Carmel in Jindabyne (2006). On television she has played Rita Connors in Wentworth (2018–2021) and Twig in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023).
Purcell wrote and starred in the play The Drover's Wife (2014) and its 2022 film adaptation, which she also directed and produced. She has received several awards, including AACTA Awards and a Helpmann Award.
