Biography
Len Blum is a Canadian screenwriter, composer and filmmaker. Born Leonard Solomon Blum on 29 December 1951 in Montreal, he attended Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, and graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1975.
He began his screenwriting career collaborating with Dan Goldberg and Ivan Reitman on comedies. His credits include Meatballs (1979), Stripes (1981), Heavy Metal (1981), Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (1983), Beethoven's 2nd (1993), Private Parts (1997), Over the Hedge (2006) and The Pink Panther (2006). He won the Genie Award for Best Original Screenplay for Meatballs in 1980.
In 2015 the Toronto International Film Festival established the Len Blum Residency programme to support emerging Canadian screenwriters.
