Biography
Libuše Havelková (also credited as Libuše Drboutová) was a Czech actress. Born in České Budějovice in 1924, she trained at the Prague Conservatory and DAMU before beginning her career in Ostrava and at the E. F. Burian Theatre in Prague. From 1960 to 1991 she was a member of the National Theatre company in Prague.
She appeared in more than ninety films and television productions between 1957 and 2012. Havelková is known for her role as the stationmaster’s wife in Jiří Menzel’s Closely Watched Trains (1966). Later in her career she became familiar to audiences for maternal and grandmotherly parts, including in the children’s programme Kouzelná školka. She was married to composer Svatopluk Havelka and was the mother of actor and musician Ondřej Havelka. She died in Prague in 2017.
