Biography
Lidia Minticz-Skarżyńska (also credited as Lidia Skarżyńska or Lidia Minticz) was a Polish costume designer, scenographer, painter and educator. Born on 14 January 1920 in Zabierzów near Kraków, she studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, completing her training in 1948, and also attended courses in architecture at the Kraków University of Technology and at the Kraków Film Institute.
She collaborated extensively with her husband Jerzy Skarżyński on theatre and film productions. In cinema she worked on several films directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has, providing costume design for The Saragossa Manuscript (1965), Szyfry (1966), Lalka (1968) and The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973). She also contributed to earlier short films and television productions.
Skarżyńska lectured at the Postgraduate Studio of Theatre, Film and Television Scenography at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts from 1970 and was appointed professor of scenography. She received several Polish state awards, including the Order of Polonia Restituta, and died in Kraków on 20 July 1994.
