Biography
Lilla Brignone (born Adelaide Brignone) was an Italian actress who appeared in around forty films between 1930 and 1982, as well as in theatre. She was the daughter of film director Guido Brignone and actress Lola Visconti, and the niece of actress Mercedes Brignone. She made her stage debut at fifteen and became a leading figure in Italian theatre, working with directors including Giorgio Strehler, Luchino Visconti and Vittorio De Sica.
Her film roles include Vittoria's mother in Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Eclisse (1962), La madre di Roberta in Violent Summer (1959), Regina in Ghosts of Rome (1961), Granma in Malicious (1973) and the mother of Drogo in The Desert of the Tartars (1976). She also appeared in Paranoia (1969) as Teresa. Brignone received the San Genesio Prize in 1955 and an Oscar Capitolino in 1972. She was the long-term partner of actor Gianni Santuccio.
