Biography
Louise Peter is a German screenwriter, film director and former actress. Born in 1982 in West Berlin, she studied theatre, film and media sciences in Vienna before completing an acting training in Berlin. She later studied screenwriting at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where she was a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and spent time at La Fémis in Paris.
Peter has directed and co-directed several short films, including Monster (2014, with Steve Bache) and the animated Eye for an Eye (2016, with Bache and Mahyar Goudarzi), the latter of which received a Student Academy Award nomination and the Short Tiger Award. She has also written scripts for shorts such as Der Käpt’n (2019) and Ella (2018).
She is best known as co-writer, with childhood friend Mascha Schilinski, of the feature Sound of Falling (2025, also known as In die Sonne schauen). The film premiered in competition at Cannes, where it won the Jury Prize, and later received the German Film Award for Best Screenplay among other honours.
