Biography
Lucilla Morlacchi was an Italian actress whose career centred on the stage. Born in Milan on 29 April 1936, she trained at the Accademia dei Filodrammatici and made her professional debut in 1956 with the company of Ernesto Calindri and Lina Volonghi in George Bernard Shaw’s Major Barbara.
She worked frequently with Luchino Visconti, appearing in his stage productions of L’Arialda (1960) and The Cherry Orchard (1965), the latter earning her the San Genesio Prize. Her best-known screen role was as Concetta Corbera in Visconti’s film The Leopard (1963). Morlacchi remained active in theatre for decades, performing with companies such as the Teatro Stabile di Genova and the Salone Pier Lombardo in Milan, and received the Eleonora Duse Prize in 1990 for her performance in Jean Genet’s The Maids. She died in Milan on 13 November 2014.
