Biography
Luis Puenzo is an Argentine film director, producer and screenwriter. Born in Buenos Aires in 1946, he began his career in advertising in the 1960s and directed his first feature, Luces de mis zapatos, in 1973.
Puenzo is best known for The Official Story (1985; also known as La historia oficial), which he directed, co-wrote with Aída Bortnik and produced. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the first for an Argentine production. He later directed Old Gringo (1989) in the United States.
Puenzo served as president of Argentina's INCAA from 2019 to 2022. He is the father of screenwriter and director Lucía Puenzo.
