Biography
Luiz Eduardo Soares is a Brazilian anthropologist, sociologist, political scientist and writer. Born on 12 March 1954 in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, he has held senior public roles including Sub-Secretary for Security and Coordinator of Security, Justice and Citizenship in Rio de Janeiro state (1999–2000) and National Secretary for Public Security (2003).
He appears as himself in the documentary Bus 174 (2002). Soares is the co-author of the book Elite da Tropa (2006), which was adapted into the feature film Elite Squad (2007). He has also contributed to other screen works including A Suspeita (2021).
