Biography
Luka Liashenko (also credited as L. Lyashenko or Л. Ляшенко) was a Ukrainian Soviet actor, screenwriter and director. He was born on 12 November 1898 in Zhytnie, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire (now Sumy Oblast, Ukraine) and died on 1 December 1976 in Kyiv. He is known for his role as the Young Kulak in Aleksandr Dovzhenko’s Earth (1930).
Liashenko graduated from the Kyiv Musical and Dramatic Institute named after N. V. Lysenko in 1930. He worked at the Odessa and Kyiv film studios from 1928 to 1932 and appeared in other films including Bread (1930) and Shchors (1939). He was also a writer of books for children and young people, and directed or wrote several films in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He was repressed in 1935 and again in 1946, and rehabilitated in 1955.
